Optical Internal Urethrotomy (OIU)
A urethrotomy is an operation which involves incision of the urethra, especially for relief of a stricture. It is most often performed in the outpatient setting, with the patient (usually) being discharged from the hospital or surgery center within a day or two from the procedure's inception.
Optical Internal Urethrotomy is used to treat urethral strictures, a medical condition when the urethra (the tube that drains urine from the bladder) becomes narrow. In this surgical process, the body tissues in the urethra are removed, to release it.
Your surgeon may ask for MCU ( MicturatingCystourethogram) and RGU ( Retrograde Urethrogram) to confirm your diagnosis apart from other clinical and pathological investigations.
